Updated Oct 14, 2010
I just uploaded a new version of netplot to the SSC repository, from where it should be downloadable within a couple of days you can now install it by typing ssc install netplot in Stata. If you already have it, it should be updated automatically with Stata update. You can also download it here and install it manually (just extract it into an ado-folder).
This update fixes a bug which caused arrows in directed networks to be drawn incorrectly. Thanks to Alexei Karas for spotting the problem.
Exciting to see some network tools for stata – are you planning to include some stats too? (connectivity measures, etc.)
@Jacob: netplot is realy meant as a visualization command, so I don’t think I’ll add any statistics to netplot itself. It is however perfectly feasible to produce new commands using netplot’s basic architecture. Once you have the adjacency matrix in Mata, it is fairly easy to compute the statistics you want. I already have a sizable collection of SNA Mata functions; when I find the time I’ll embed some of these in commands that you can use directly form Stata.
Dear Rense,
tomorrow I will install Stata 10 in order to run netplot.
I have one question: does this toolbox allows to compute network measures like density?
thank you very much for your help
best regards
Mariano
Mariano,
netplot is not really a “toolbox;” it is a command to graphically display networks, and does nothing else. Computing network measures like density is possible in Stata, although there are no ready-made commands (yet). It really depends on your data structure.
If you’re installing Stata 10 just for netplot, you might instead want to look at other options like Pajek, which will give you many more options for network analysis.
